New Seating @ 30 St Mary Axe - The Gherkin31 January 2010 by Gerhard
New custom made seating arrived in our Gherkin shop & cafe in November. The craftsman-made oak furniture provides more flexibled seating. The warmth of the wood and increased seating has provided a great benefit to our customers.
The furniture was designed by Kevin Allsop for Jamie Fobert Architects, the original designers of our Gherkin store.
It had to follow the curvature of the 30 St Mary Axe, and needed some very precise craftsmanship.
German joinery firm Rothenhoefer was entrusted with the task of making and delivering the detailed design.
Local German newspaper Der Sonntag picked up on the Rothenhoefer/Gherkin story in this weekend’s edition..
